Independent Retailer for South Lanarkshire and came out on top despite being on one of the largest categories at the ceremony.
Every regional winner is then entered into the Grand Final of Scotlands Business Awards which was held on the 24th of October at the Doubletree by Hilton Central Station in Glasgow with over 700 people in attendance and over 18 regions all in competition to take home the prizes showcasing the best businesses in Scotland.
Once again, despite being in one if the largest categories at the event, we were delighted to be crowned the Best Independent Retailer in Scotland for 2020/21.This is now the second year in a row McKellars have won best in Scotland for their category after winning best specialised retailer in Scotland 2019.
This was a fantastic achievement for us all and were over the moon to receive this award.
In a recent interview with some local press, Ken the owner of the business said,
“Having won our category two years ago (the last time the awards were run) we really did not believe we would win the final for a second year running. The category field is so large and diverse and trading conditions have been so difficult this past 18 months. To win for a second year running was truly mind blowing.

As we have said in the past, we are acutely aware that these awards, which are very customer driven, are a true endorsement of the efforts McKellars go to in trying to help & support our customers. Our team work very hard to maintain a high level of professionalism and provide a service that is not only very personal and friendly but also wide ranging. We are very grateful to all our customers for their continued loyalty & support and for taking the time and effort to vote for us. It is the residents of Lanark and the surrounding towns that keep our business alive and we know that without them and their support we would not be business. It is challenging times that we live in, especially for small businesses on the High Street. We hope we will still be here years from now, still providing answers to customers questions and fulfilling their needs. Maybe even still winning the odd award like Scotlands Best Independent Retailer.”
